ScreenVault / Screen capture

Take a screenshot online

Capture your whole screen, one app window or a browser tab without installing anything. Pick what to share, and the frame lands here, ready to save, mark up or copy.

What this can and can’t capture

Firefox (desktop)YesYesNo (screen or window only)
Safari 13+ (macOS)YesYesNo

Protected video (Netflix and other DRM streams) shows up black, by design. On macOS, the first capture asks you to allow the browser under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.

Why there is no “screenshot a URL” box

Tools that screenshot a web address run a headless browser on their server, load the page there and send back an image. That means a server fetches the page (and can’t see anything behind your login). ScreenVault deliberately has no server-side processing or storage, so it captures what your own browser shows instead.

Faster alternatives you already have

System shortcuts are quicker for single shots: Win+Shift+S on Windows, ⌘+Shift+4 on a Mac. After either, press Ctrl/⌘+V on the vault page to file it (on a Mac, hold Ctrl too while capturing so it goes to the clipboard).

Questions

Can a website take a screenshot of my screen?

Only with your permission, each time. This page uses the browser’s Screen Capture API (getDisplayMedia): the browser shows its own picker, you choose a screen, window or tab, and sharing stops as soon as the frame is grabbed. The page cannot see anything you don’t pick.

Which browsers support it?

Desktop Chrome, Edge, Opera, Firefox and Safari 13+ support screen capture. Mobile browsers on iOS and Android do not expose it to websites, so on a phone use the system shortcut and then add the image to your vault.

Why doesn’t this capture a web page from a URL?

Rendering an arbitrary URL needs a headless browser running on a server that loads the page for you. ScreenVault has no server-side processing or storage by design, so it doesn’t offer that; capture the page from your own browser tab instead, which also works for pages behind logins.

Is the capture uploaded?

No. The frame is drawn onto a canvas in this tab and saved to your browser’s storage or downloaded. Nothing is sent to ScreenVault.

Can I capture with a delay to open a menu first?

Yes. Choose a 3- or 5-second delay: after you pick the window, you have that long to open a dropdown or hover state before the frame is taken.
